After the Indian traders were harassed, beaten up and tortured by their Chinese counterparts in China, Indian business community is having second thoughts about the desirability of having trade relations deeply with China. Chinese government took belated action and that too with reluctance. It was a shame that the Indian Foreign Minister S M Krishna thanked the Chinese government for their ‘prompt action’.

Soup Is the First Item in Indian Cuisine, But Last Item in Chinese Dinner

But still there are mutual likes between Indians and Chinese. In Shanghai, college students queued up to watch the Aamir Khan Comedy movie ‘Three Idiots’. Chinese restaurants are quite popular in India though the stuff that is served in these restaurants is not really Chinese. Chinese are capable of achieving anything you ask except perhaps acquiring a proficiency in spoken English. Antony Munuswamy, who runs the Indian Kitchen chain in China, vouchsafes that the Chinese people like Indian cuisines. Antony runs more than 25 restaurants and is the richest Indian settled in China. He has a Chinese wife also. In Indian cuisine, the soup will come first as an appetiser. But in Chinese meals, the soup is the last item to end the dinner.

In The Name Of Patriotism, Don’t Defend the Indians

Indian traders in China are also at fault. They indulge in illegal trading, they enter China illegally and overstay. They are greedy and overprice their products. There are complaints of Indian traders trying to molest Chinese women. I am also an Indian, but in the name of patriotism, I refuse to condone immoral and illegal acts. Indian traders should understand that if they are greedy and selfish, they will meet only with harsh treatment from the local population wherever they are. Bilateral trade between India and China is growing. Many Indian companies have set up their branch offices in China. Shanghai is China’s financial capital as Mumbai is to India. Indian companies and their Indian staff, by and large, behave well and earn the goodwill of the Chinese people. But the traders, who concentrate in port cities like Shenzhen and Guangzhou, indulge in immoral and illegal acts to spoil the name of India.

Most Inferior Stuff Is Sent To India

China exports the best qualify stuff to USA and European countries. They use the second best stuff for themselves. They export the least quality stuff to India. Chinese business community have a very poor opinion about Indian consumers. They feel that the most inferior stuff is enough for Indians. There is even a joke among the Chinese that Indians will eat even human faeces if served. There are around 3500 Indians living in Shanghai. In other cities, there may be another 1000 Indians. There is similarly a poor opinion about Chinese people among the Indians in India. Chinese are known in India as eating anything from snakes to lizards to dogs. Indians joke that if dogs are not available, Chinese even eat dog’s faeces. Last year, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, his ministers and officers (totally around 100 people) visited China to attend a conference. As most of them including the Chief Minister were pure vegetarians, they carried their food throughout their stay and did not eat anything in the Chinese hotels.

Chinese Doctors Are Efficient In Childbirth!

There are glaring doubts about Chinese doctors among the Indians in China. Here also there is a joke. Indians say that Chinese doctors are fit for nothing except in taking care of childbirth as they had delivered 130 crore Chinese babies successfully. There is an acute housing shortage in China though the Chinese government is taking some steps. A house costs around one million Yuan (Rs.86 lakhs) which is out of reach of most Chinese. There are thousands of Chinese living in India, mainly in Kolkata. They are happy with the Indians and Indian food. They live in a commune and train their children in Chinese language and Chinese culture.
